The exploration of the passenger-side rocker area shown in a previous photo told us that the whole area was in bad shape. We faced the difficult decision of how to repair the area. Patching it would be sub-optimal—the rocker is crucial for stiffening the convertible body. Clark's Corvair Parts makes a partial replacement (for the outside only) but it is one gauge thinner.

We "bit the bullet" and had new rocker panels (including the interior support) fabricated from scratch by a local Seattle company that Phantom Restorations had used on several other jobs. They did a great job!

This picture shows the entire old rocker panel removed. I had never seen a Corvair stripped apart this far—it's pretty cool to see inside every nook and cranny.
