A Michigan Show Job

In October 2021, Allen Bristow of Clearwater, FL, bought this Rampside from the estate of Harold Dexter, who had owned this sharp Rampside since 1966. As you can see from the photos below, this truck is very original and has only 55k miles on the odometer. The truck still had its original spark plug wires when Allen acquired it. It is the first '64 Rampside Kent has seen with complete original Custom Equipment (RPO Z60) seat upholstery. (See photo below.)

Allen said the truck has some unusual original accessories, including the rare spotlight. One thing that caught Allen's eye immediately is the very professional-looking vinyl on the door panels. (See photo below.) Allen contacted Corvair historian Dave Newell, who replied:

"Given that Harold Dexter lived near Flint, bought the Rampside in that area, and that the truck has a low VIN and an unusual amount of accessories, I think the vinyl covered access panels were probably done at Chevrolet Engineering. As far as I know, vinyl-covered panels like this haven't shown up on any other FC or in any internal publications.

The truck was probably built as a show vehicle. My first thought was that it might be the Rampside shown at the 1964 Chevrolet National Sales Convention at Cobo Hall in Detroit but the sole Rampside there was Orange with a white stripe. Although Allen's truck's VIN is low, it was probably not low enough for it to have been featured at the NSC. Instead, it might have been built for one of the Zone Office field showings which took place after the NSC.

The truck is a rare and interesting FC and I'm sure Allen will preserve it properly!"

As you can see from the photos below, the truck also has a slide-in camper made in California, which Allen is researching.

In April, 2022, Allen shared these photos:
