A true collectible

Dorothy Hansen is the proud owner of this '65 Greenbrier. Dorothy is working on getting me some pictures of her rig, but sent along the following in the meantime:

"The best picture of my 8-door Greenbrier can be seen on pages 36 and 37 in the magazine Collectible Automobile published by Publications International Ltd., Skokie, IL., issue February 1987 (volume 3 number 5). The photo was taken under the willow tree in my front yard. Earl F. Hansen is listed as the owner but I own it now since he died in February, 1989.

The 1966 blue 4-door on page 39 is mine also. It is an automatic with factory AC and factory head rests. I own these cars, too:

  • 1965 turbo convertible (4 speed)
  • 1966 140 coupe (4 speed)
  • 1966 110 coupe (automatic)

The '66 4-door is also pictured in Collectible Automobile on page 35 of February 1997, (volume 13 number 5 issue) and the book Chevrolet, The Complete History (1996) by the auto editors of Consumer Guide.

I am a charter member of the Chicagoland Corvair Enthusiasts and a life member of CORSA."

Dorothy also recalled the following fun memory involving her Greenbrier:

Picnic in an 8-door Greenbrier

"It was a very warm summer day at the Kane County, IL fair grounds car show. Do not remember the date. Like [any] all-makes car show you get up early, travel to the show, wait in line, then move to your assigned spot. Clean any dust off and prepare to stay all day until the fair closes in the afternoon. A fellow Corvair club member was just ahead of us as we entered the fair grounds, (we planned it that way) and he parked his 1960 'vair next to our FC. Of course, you walk around and look at the other cars and even talk to other owners also.

Both side doors and the back doors were opened thus taking advantage of any breeze blowing through. When it came time for lunch, it was a snap to do without leaving your seat. All we had to do was reach over the back seat where a cooler had the picnic fixings and another had the needed utensils. Folding trays were set up between the seats making a nice long narrow table. We ate in comfort and were the envy of the people around us as there were long lines at the food concession booths. The people who stopped by to chat and to play cards made the afternoon go fast. About 4 PM we packed up and headed home."
